ARTIST STATEMENT
Confusion is a state where perception comes into conflict with reality. These pieces are a reflection and reaction to societal expectations and the contradictions they pose to the fundamental challenge of humanity's survival. My Artwork suggests that the reality of consumerism and commodity can only be overcome and escaped through fantastical problem-solving. In that sense the state of confusion is essential to the process of creating solutions. The depth of each work is dependent on the amount of physical and mental effort put into the creation and value is determined by the amount of knowledge discovered through the process. That is to say the level of intimacy required to understand these body of works enters an arena that most people may feel uncomfortable to approach; comfortable would involve the capital value of the end product. All of these works, directly and indirectly, resist the ideal of capital gain while being reliant on the use of currency to be formed into reality. Their final function is to exist as witnesses of the sterilizing effects of the unconscious upholding of systems that consume humanity and ultimately work against the real need of survival.
